MUKAH: A motorcycle reported stolen in Miri was recovered at an oil palm plantation workers’ quarters in Ulu Penipah, leading to the arrest of two foreign workers on Sunday night (Sept 6).
The suspects, aged 40 and 27, were detained by police at around 11 pm following intelligence and surveillance carried out by the district Criminal Investigation Division (CID).
Mukah police chief DSP Muhamad Rizal Alias said officers raided the quarters at the plantation and found a black Yamaha 135LC motorcycle believed to be linked to a theft reported in Miri.
“The motorcycle was confirmed to have been reported missing under a Bekenu police report.
“The suspects, who work as oil palm plantation labourers, were taken to the district police headquarters (IPD) along with the motorcycle for further investigation,” he said.
However, the investigation did not end with the recovery of the stolen motorcycle.
Urine tests conducted on both suspects later returned positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
They are being investigated under Section 379A of the Penal Code for vehicle theft, Section 411 of the Penal Code for possession of stolen property, and Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952 for drug use.
Muhamad Rizal added that the men are also being probed under Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for allegedly failing to possess valid travel documents.
Both of them have been remanded until Sept 10 to allow police to complete their investigations.
He assured that police would continue intensifying efforts to curb criminal activities, particularly vehicle theft, and would take firm action against those involved in crime and drug abuse.
