MIRI: The Miri Public Park Phase 4 (Zone B – Rock Cliff & Forest Park) at Jalan Hills has recorded 97 per cent completion under Projek Rakyat.
Senadin assemblyman Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, who inspected the RM1.5 million project on Tuesday (Sept 30), said final works and improvements are still being carried out before it is fully opened to the public.
“Among the matters that need attention are the drainage system, pedestrian walkways, landscaping works and screening the toilet area from the main road with greenery.
“I have asked the consultant and the city council’s engineering team to review these requirements.”
The Transport Minister added that the 21-acre park is set to become a new attraction in Miri due to its scenic views and hilly trails, making it suitable for leisure and exercise.
However, he stressed that safety and maintenance must be given priority to prevent vandalism of public facilities at the park.
Among the proposed measures is the installation of closed-circuit television (CCTV) cameras.
“I hope the community will take care of the facilities provided. This park is for the public and also for tourists.”
During the same visit, Lee also inspected a landslide incident in the nearby area and called on Miri City Council to prioritise repair works ahead of the year-end monsoon season.
