MIRI: Miri Division has been selected to host the Sarawak-level Maal Hijrah celebration for the year 1448 Hijrah/2026, which will take place on June 16 and 17.
Deputy Minister in the Premier’s Department (Regional Development Agencies Coordination, North Kuching City Hall and Islamic Affairs) Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Junaidi, said the two-day programme is expected to attract more than 1,000 Muslims.
He said the celebration, themed “Ummah Maju Makmur” (A Progressive and Prosperous Ummah), is organised by the Sarawak Islamic Religious Department and the Miri Resident’s Office, together with various state and federal government agencies.
“The main programme on June 16 will be the End-of-Year Prayer Ceremony for 1447 Hijrah and the Beginning-of-Year Prayer Ceremony for 1448 Hijrah at 5.30 pm at Masjid At-Taqwa, here.
“On June 17, the Maal Hijrah 1448 Hijrah Assembly will be held at 9 am at the Miri Indoor Stadium,” he said during a press conference following the Sarawak-Level Maal Hijrah Celebration Committee Meeting 2026 at the Miri Resident’s Office on Tuesday as reported by Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS).
The celebration is expected to be attended by Head of State Tun Pehin Sri Dr Wan Junaidi Tuanku Jaafar, and his wife Toh Puan Datuk Patinggi Fauziah Mohd Sanusi, as well as Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg.
