SARIKEI: An elderly man, who was reported missing yesterday (Jan 19) after going to a farm near Rumah Nugu Kerubong, Jalan Selalang, has been found drowned this morning.

The victim, identified as 71-year-old Rampai Jeti, was discovered by members of the public in a small river at around 7 am.

A spokesman for the Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said rescuers went to retrieve the body, about 500m from where he went missing, and brought it out of the forest area.

The body was handed over to the police for further action, and the search was officially called off at 8.50 am.

Yesterday, at around 8 am, Rampai went to a farm alone and did not return home since then. Concerned for his well-being, his family went to look for him but to no avail.

This prompted them to report the incident to the authorities. The family feared that Rampai may have drowned in a small river near the farm.

Firefighters from Sarikei station, police and the Civil Defence Force (APM) were dispatched to the scene, about 30km away, to launch the search and rescue operation.
