KANOWIT: A local man, who was reported missing in Song, Kapit since last Friday, was found drowned in Rajang River near Fort Emma yesterday (Mar 10).

Sibu Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 4 chief Andy Alie said that the body of 44-year-old Bujang Zainuddin was discovered afloat, about 56km from his home in Rumah Wil Nanga Nyimoh.

Firefighters from Kanowit station were deployed to the Kanowit jetty after receiving a distress call at 2.14 pm.

“The team together with police spotted the victim floating in Rajang River before boarding a boat to retrieve the body.

“Later, the body was handed over to the police for further action,” he said in a statement.

Andy added that the body was also identified by the victim’s family as Bujang who had gone missing.

Following that, the operation ended at 5 pm.

Bujang, who was suffering from health problems, was reported missing by his family yesterday after initial efforts to search for him since Friday failed.
