KUCHING: As a government body and frontliner in the fight against Covid-19 pandemic, the Malaysian Maritime Enforcement Agency (MMEA) Bintulu zone is doing its part by getting its staff to donate blood.

According to the zone’s director Maritime Captain Shahref Steve Mac Queen Abdullah, they assisted Bintulu Hospital’s Blood Transfusion Unit which was in need of more blood during the movement control order (MCO) period.

“The agency also wanted to help save the lives of others regardless of race and religion,” he said.

The agency assured that safety and awareness to prevent the spread of Covid-19 was emphasised throughout the course of the donation to reduce the risk of infection.

Health screenings were performed by health officers before the blood donation process while social distancing was practised as well.

APMM Bintulu also advised the maritime community in Bintulu district to prioritise safety while at sea by always wearing safety jackets and obeying all orders issued by the government throughout the duration of the MCO.
