KUCHING: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) has dismissed allegations that waste collection services at Batu Kawa Old Bazaar have been reduced, stressing that collection schedules remain unchanged.

The clarification follows a statement by Stampin MP Chong Chieng Jen, who claimed that waste collection frequency in the area had been cut.

“The statement appears to be based on hearsay and is not supported by facts. Such inaccurate claims are misleading to the public,” said MPP chairman Tan Kai in a press statement on Tuesday (June 9).

He added that elected representatives should verify information thoroughly before making public statements that could affect the council’s image and reputation.

According to Tan, the council immediately convened an ad hoc discussion with Trienekens (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd following the allegation to determine the accuracy of the claim.

“The Member of Parliament should verify the facts before issuing statements that may tarnish the image and reputation of MPP.”

Based on inspections conducted on the ground and reports submitted by the waste management contractor, collection frequency at Batu Kawa Old Bazaar remains twice weekly.

The service schedule continues to operate every Wednesday and Saturday, with no changes implemented despite concerns raised regarding refuse collection in the locality.

Tan explained that records maintained by both the council and Trienekens showed an increase in waste volume during the recent Gawai festive celebration period.

“Nevertheless, all waste was collected on the same day, and the collection frequency remained unchanged,” he said, dismissing suggestions of service reductions.

He noted that higher waste generation during festive periods can sometimes create perceptions of delayed collection despite services being carried out as scheduled.

Meanwhile, Tan encouraged residents to report waste collection issues directly through resident councillors, official MPP communication channels, or Trienekens customer service platforms.

Members of the public may contact Trienekens through its Customer Care Hotline at 082-612300, email services, or the Trienekens Customer Care mobile app for assistance.

The council reiterated its commitment to maintaining efficient waste management services and ensuring public concerns are addressed promptly through proper reporting channels.
