KUCHING: The Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) will host a free dog licensing, anti-rabies vaccination, and microchipping programme tomorrow (Saturday, June 27) to curb the spread of rabies and promote responsible pet ownership.
The programme will be held at the Kota Sentosa Basketball Court here from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm, with priority given to pet owners residing within the MPP jurisdiction.
In a public notice, MPP warned that dog owners who fail to license and vaccinate their pets can face compound fines under local government regulations.
The council stated that dogs brought for vaccination must be healthy, at least three months old, and must not be pregnant or currently nursing.
Owners are also requested to bring along their pet’s vaccination card if available.
Pet owners have also been reminded to quarantine and isolate their pets for 28 days after vaccination to allow immunity against rabies to develop, and to ensure the animals remain strictly within their house compounds during the period.
MPP urged pet owners to take advantage of this initiative to protect both their pets and the wider community from the deadly virus.
