KOTA PADAWAN: The Padawan Municipal Council’s (MPP) recent drainage and road improvement works at Lorong 1, Arang Road have drawn positive responses from residents, following the completion of a long-standing flood mitigation project.

During a site inspection, chairman Tan Kai commended the council’s efforts in implementing a 79.6-metre covered drain, backfilling, bitumen sealing, and road resurfacing works.

“The project has successfully addressed previous water ponding issues that troubled the local community.

“The council’s proactive measures to improve drainage and raise the road level have already brought tangible benefits to residents. It is encouraging to see the community respond positively to these initiatives.”

In preparation for the rainy season, MPP has also undertaken several key measures to enhance public safety.

“Tree trimming and cutting works were carried out to maintain motorists’ visibility during heavy rain, while excavation of earth drains in flood-prone areas has improved water flow.

“Regular clearing of drains is ongoing to prevent blockages that could lead to flash floods,” Tan added.

To support emergency operations, he said the MPP LA Serve Team remains on standby 24/7.

“Two weeks ago, the team assisted in easing traffic congestion caused by a fallen tree at Jalan Penrissen, ensuring smooth traffic flow while clearing works were conducted.”

Tan also reminded the public to remain vigilant during the rainy season and cooperate with instructions issued by the authorities.

“Our commitment is to safeguard residents while continuing to strengthen flood mitigation efforts throughout the rainy season.”
