KUCHING: The Malaysian Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Kuching Branch commemorated World Red Cross and Red Crescent Day 2026 today (May 8) by organising a meaningful community outreach programme at the Sarawak General Hospital (SGH).
Held in conjunction with the annual global humanitarian observance, the programme featured the presentation of hampers to the first three babies born on May 8, gifts to three mothers ahead of Mother’s Day, and the distribution of 200 food gift packs to children’s, maternity and paediatric wards.
The event was graced by Datin Seri Airi Abdul Manan, wife of Datuk Seri Abang Abdul Karim Tun Openg.
In a statement, the branch expressed appreciation to Airi for sponsoring the hampers and gifts presented during the programme.

The branch also thanked QL Livestock Farming Sdn Bhd for contributing eggs, and Oromeo Marketing Sdn Bhd for sponsoring 7DAYS Croissants for the food gift packs distributed to recipients.
“The continued generosity and support from sponsors, donors and well-wishers had brought meaningful encouragement to patients, mothers, children and families at the hospital,” the statement read.
Among those present were Deputy Director III of SGH, Datin Dr Norina; Assistant Public Relations Officer, Sariddin Kederi; MRCS Kuching Branch’s Deputy Chairman, Dr Chou Chii Ming; Vice-Chairman II, John Jong; Nursing Superintendent, Chin Siew Kiaw; and various committee members.
MRC Kuching Branch reaffirmed its commitment to promoting compassion and humanitarian values through ongoing programmes that uplift and support the local community.
