KUCHING: Four students from MRSM Kuching brought pride to Sarawak with their award-winning poster during the recent World Orchid Conference (WOC).
Mohd Nur Fikry Soekery, Fahyim Qashry Teh Farrez The, Nur Liyana Muhammad Ataullah Liaw and Ear Orton Jaya won the WOC Trust Young Investigator Award in Tainan, Taiwan.
Kuching North City Hall (DBKU) Mayor Hilmy Othman presented award certificates to the students during a simple ceremony at his office yesterday (Mar 20).
The Sarawak Orchid Society (SARORSO) thanked Hilmy for presenting the award certificates despite his tight schedule.
“Hilmy’s willingness to accommodate our request on such short notice is truly appreciated and it signifies his commitment to support educational initiatives and community engagement.
“His presence at the award ceremony did not only honour the hard work and dedication of the students, but also attracted the attention of the community,” the society said in a press release.
Noting Hilmy’s role as SARORSO’s primary advisor, the society is confident that his presence will enhance the prestige and importance of community events.
“His involvement will undoubtedly open up more opportunities for collaboration and support, furthering the objectives of our project and benefiting not only the society and the school but also the entire community, state, and country,” the society said.
Also present were the society’s founder Tengku Dr Auvaroza Tengku Abraham, president Zurenawatte Zaidil.
