KUCHING: A cross-border music and cultural initiative, MUARA, will bring together creative communities from Borneo for a collaborative showcase in Kuching on April 29.
The event, titled ‘MUARA: Kuching Showcase’, will be held at Star On Stage, Borneo Street and is part of ‘Breaking The Border’, a creative campaign by ZASS Puravida aimed at connecting artists, musicians and cultural practitioners across borders.
The programme will feature Indonesia-based alternative pop band, Syndrama, from Pontianak alongside Sarawak-based artists, highlighting cross-border collaboration and cultural exchange through live performances, dialogue sessions and curated experiences.
Organisers said MUARA serves as a meeting point for creatives from Pontianak, Kuching and Sibu, fostering connections through performance, storytelling and shared cultural exploration.
The Kuching chapter will include an interview or podcast-style session designed as an open conversation between participants from Pontianak and Kuching, focusing on their respective creative scenes, challenges and opportunities for collaboration.
This will be followed by a sharing session or artist exchange, encouraging dialogue, knowledge-sharing and potential partnerships among artists and creatives from both regions.
A curated food experience showcasing Bornean flavours will also be part of the programme, highlighting food as a bridge between communities and cultures.
The event will culminate in a live performance showcase featuring Syndrama and selected Sarawak-based collaborators, reflecting a fusion of musical styles and shared storytelling.
Among the Sarawak artists and creatives involved are Steff Fleur, Viceroyz, WP.Shhh and Razali Sa’at, along with other local collaborators.
