MUKAH: Treated water supply coverage have reached 84.85 per cent as of Aug this year, with further grid projects underway to expand clean water access to remaining rural communities.

Minister of Women, Early Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah acknowledged the progress while urging for the expedited rollout of RM200.2 million worth of grid extension projects.

“Key projects under the Sarawak Water Supply Grid include the proposed Balingian-Kuala Sarupai distribution system, as well as water supply projects to Paloh and Pulau Bruit.

“Speeding up implementation will allow more residents to enjoy treated water,” she said during the ‘Sarawakku Sayang’ (SKS) programme in Mukah Division at Dataran Pehin Setia Raja this morning (Oct 3).

Fatimah, who is also Dalat assemblywoman, also expressed gratitude for the Sarawak Alternative Water Supply (SAWAS) assistance benefiting rural settlements in Klid, Narub, Ulu Baoh, Nanga Semah, and Penasu.

Addressing electricity supply, she appealed for swift action on rural electrification, including a RM13.1-million Rural Electrification Scheme (RES) project in Nanga Baoh, Dalat, which will benefit 1,166 residents across nine longhouses.

“We also hope for the approval of applications under the Additional/Late Applicant Fund (ALAF) program involving 1,106 households across Mukah Division, costing RM22.1 million,” Fatimah added.
