KUCHING: A total of 20 hectares of bushland has been affected by ongoing fires in several locations across Daro, Sibu and Sarikei, with one site fully extinguished as of this morning (Apr 9).
The Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) said operations are still ongoing at three locations, with firefighting efforts temporarily halted and scheduled to resume.
In Pulau Bruit, Jalan Kampung Kut–Saai, about nine hectares were affected, with eight hectares already extinguished and one hectare still burning on the sixth day of operations.
At Jalan Matu–Igan, about three hectares were affected, with 1.9 hectares extinguished, leaving 1.1 hectares yet to be put out on the third day.
Meanwhile, at Jalan Bruan Tutus, about four hectares were affected, with 3.5 hectares extinguished and 0.5 hectares still burning on the second day.
In Sarikei, the fire at Jalan Sakam involving four hectares was fully extinguished at 9.14am after firefighters confirmed no further signs of fire at the site.
Bomba said monitoring and suppression efforts will continue at the remaining locations.
