KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Ramadan bazaar has once again enlivened the atmosphere with a wide variety of traditional and modern delicacies, attracting large crowds.

Since the afternoon, the bazaar area has gradually filled with people eager to purchase food for breaking their fast, creating a lively and bustling scene for both visitors and traders.

Amidst the hustle and bustle, Sarawak Tribune interviewed several buyers who shared their experiences and challenges throughout this blessed month.

Badariah Sebeli

One visitor, Badariah Sebeli, 26, mentioned that she visits the bazaar every year to enjoy traditional dishes that are difficult to find outside of Ramadan.

“I love buying murtabak and ‘ayam percik’ here because they taste authentic and are sold by the same traders year after year.

“The prices remain reasonable, and the quality of the food is well maintained,” she said when approached.

Siti Norzalia

For Siti Norzalia, 22, the Ramadan bazaar is not just a place to buy food but also an opportunity to experience a variety of dishes from different states.

“I enjoy trying unique foods such as special roti john and blue ‘nasi kerabu’.

“Every year, I arrive early so I don’t miss out on my favourite dishes,” she remarked.

Although the atmosphere is vibrant, some shoppers acknowledged a slight increase in prices compared to last year.

However, for Margaret Hilton, 28, the variety of choices still makes the bazaar a must-visit destination throughout Ramadan.

“There has been a price increase, but it is still acceptable. I am more mindful in selecting my food to avoid waste,” she explained.

Aside from the buyers, traders are also delighted with the encouraging response.

According to a ‘nasi briyani’ vendor, their sales have increased since the beginning of Ramadan, demonstrating that the bazaar remains a key attraction every year.

With its lively atmosphere and diverse range of delicacies, the Ramadan bazaar continues to be a cherished tradition, strengthening community ties while providing small traders with opportunities to generate income throughout this holy month.
