LIMBANG: The ‘Northern Region Music Festival’ (NRMF) is able to highlight the local ethnic music of the Brunei Malays, Kedayan, Chinese, Iban, Bisaya, Lun Bawang and Penan.
In a report by the Sarawak Public Communication Unit (UKAS), Deputy Minister of Food Industry, Commodities and Regional Development Datuk Dr Abdul Rahman Ismail said NRMF is one of the events held to attract tourists here as well as to strengthen ties with other states and neighbouring countries.
“This event is one of our efforts to attract tourists to Limbang and I believe many of our friends from the country of Brunei Darussalam and other states such as Sabah and Labuan participated in this programme, thus strengthening the ties between them.
“Through this programme, I believe we will bring to life the performances of the tribes in the northern region,” he said at the opening ceremony of the festival recently.
The event was organised by Broadcasting Department of Sarawak (RTM) Limbang in collaboration with the Limbang Resident’s Office and the Ministry of Tourism, Creative Industry and Performing Arts.
Among the activities included throughout the three-day event were local ethnic dance and music performances as well as featuring guest artistes namely Naqiu and Amelina.
Dr Abdul Rahman, who is also Bukit Kota assemblyman said the area will continue to be lively in the following months with array of events in the lineup such as Badudun Festival and Buffalo Race 2023, the Nuba Laya Festival, Youth Carnival and also Babulang Festival.
He also expressed hope that by organising such events, it will create a positive impact on local entrepreneurs and homestay operators here.
