LUNDU: Women are encouraged to prioritise regular health screenings, particularly pap smear and Human Papillomavirus (HPV) tests, as part of efforts to prevent and detect cervical cancer at an early stage.
Minister of Women, Family, and Community Development, Datuk Seri Nancy Shukri, said that as of the fourth quarter of 2024, a total of 162,581 women nationwide had undergone pap smear screenings and HPV detection tests since 2019.
“I urge women aged between 35 and 65, especially those who are still sexually active, to come forward and get screened. Early detection significantly increases the chances of successful treatment and recovery,” she said.
Nancy said this when met during the ‘Jelajah MADANI Rakyat’ Programme in conjunction with the National Day and Malaysia Day 2025 celebrations held in Lundu today.
For the record, a total of 45,313 women in Sarawak have undergone HPV DNA screening tests from 2019 until the end of 2024.
