JAKARTA, Indonesia: Nearly 4.9 million accounts belonging to users under 16 years old have been removed by digital platforms in Indonesia under the country’s PP TUNAS child online safety regulation.
Communication and Digital Ministry Digital Space Supervision, Director-General Alexander Sabar, said the figure followed the latest compliance report submitted by Meta, which owns Facebook, Instagram and Threads, which removed 185,000 accounts in total.
He said around 4.1 million under-age accounts were removed by TikTok while YouTube had removed 600,000 accounts, according to Antara News Agency.
PP TUNAS, which took effect in March this year, requires digital platforms operating in Indonesia to implement age-based safeguards for users under 16, including measures to prevent underage access and strengthen online child protection.
Meanwhile, Communication and Digital Minister, Meutya Hafid, said about 200 digital platforms had submitted self-assessments of their respective risk profiles to the government as part of the implementation of PP TUNAS, including e-commerce, online gaming and entertainment platforms.
She said the government is currently evaluating the self-assessment reports to determine the risk profile of each platform. – BERNAMA
