KUCHING: The gala dinner held in conjunction with the Borneo International Water and Wastewater Exhibition and Conference (BIWWEC) 2026 served as a platform to strengthen strategic ties between the government, industry players, experts and delegates from Malaysia and abroad in advancing sustainable water and wastewater management.
Utility and Telecommunication Minister Datuk Seri Julaihi Narawi attended the event at a hotel on Thursday (Jul 16) alongside conference participants and representatives from companies taking part in BIWWEC 2026.
The dinner was organised to recognise the contributions of delegates while fostering closer collaboration among stakeholders in the water and wastewater industry.
It also provided an informal setting for participants to exchange ideas, build professional networks and explore new partnerships in support of innovation and sustainable development.
The gathering also created opportunities for participants to pursue future collaborations involving investment, technology transfer and research in water and wastewater management.
Held under the theme Global Partnership for a Climate-Ready Water Future, BIWWEC 2026 brings together policymakers, utility providers, researchers, academics and industry leaders to discuss emerging challenges, share best practices and identify solutions for building a more resilient water sector.
The four-day conference, organised by the Ministry of Utility and Telecommunication together with the Sarawak Water Sdn Bhd, has attracted hundreds of delegates and exhibitors from across the region to discuss climate resilience, water security and technological innovation.
BIWWEC 2026 features technical conferences, panel discussions, exhibitions and business networking sessions showcasing the latest technologies, digital solutions and research aimed at strengthening water and wastewater services.
The conference is expected to reinforce Sarawak’s position as a regional hub for knowledge exchange and innovation in the utility sector while supporting the state’s long-term sustainability agenda.
