KUCHING: AirBorneo is set to unveil its new airfares, expected to undercut existing airlines, as early as next week or by mid-July.

Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the fare structure will also include baggage allowance and meals, offering greater value to passengers.

“God willing, the fares will be announced next week or in the middle of July.

“We have already made that commitment… for example, for the Kuching–Kuala Lumpur route, the fare will include baggage and meals,” he said.

He said this when met by reporters after attending the handover ceremony of an allocation for the construction of the Sri Satok Senior Citizens Activity Centre (PAWE) at the Pusat Kebajikan Datuk Amar Hajah Juma’ani, here today (July 5)

However, Abang Johari did not elaborate on the fare rates, saying an official announcement will be made at the appropriate time.

Recently, AirBorneo chief executive officer (CEO) Megat Ardian Wira Mohd Aminuddin said the Sarawak-owned airline is targeting to launch operations of its first jet aircraft in July, with plans to introduce regional flights from its main hub in Kuching.

He said the move is part of Phase 2 of the company’s development following the acquisition of MASwings on Jan 1.

He added that the airline carried nearly 100,000 passengers over the past two and a half months until mid-March, with on-time performance at a healthy level of about 89 to 90 per cent, and continues to receive positive feedback and media coverage while strengthening operational stability.
