MIRI: A new fully equipped ambulance service will soon be stationed at the Permyjaya Kidney Dialysis Centre to complement Miri Hospital’s emergency response capabilities, particularly in the northern parts of the city, Transport Minister, Datuk Seri Lee Kim Shin, announced on Friday.
The initiative, aimed at providing quicker access to emergency medical transport, comes in response to the growing population in areas such as Permyjaya, Vista Perdana, Desa Senadin, Tudan and Kuala Baram – neighbourhoods situated some distance from the hospital.
Lee, who also serves as Chairperson of the Miri Red Crescent Society (MRCS) Dialysis Centre, disclosed the plan after witnessing the handover of a RM45,000 dialysis machine to the Permyjaya Kidney Dialysis Centre facility.

“At present, all ambulance services are operated from Miri Hospital, which is quite a distance away from northern Miri.
“With a sizeable population in these residential areas, the hospital has sought our support to enhance emergency response,” he said.
Following discussions with the hospital, the MRCS and its partners have committed to procuring a new ambulance, which will meet the Ministry of Health’s standards and come fully equipped with essential life-saving equipment.
The cost of the ambulance is estimated at RM428,000.
Once purchased, the ambulance will be stationed at the Permyjaya centre and dispatched to nearby areas in response to emergency calls.
“This will allow for faster response times and reduce pressure on Miri Hospital’s existing fleet,” Lee added.
He expressed gratitude to Zone 10 of the Lions Club, which includes the Miri Host, Miri Central, Marudi Mandarin, and Miri Lutong branches, for stepping forward to help raise funds for the project.
“This is more than just a vehicle – it’s a lifeline.
“The ambulance will support both emergency services and patient transfers, particularly for those undergoing dialysis, and ultimately help save lives,” he said.
Lee also praised the Permyjaya Dialysis Centre for maintaining high standards in patient care.
“Our centre complies fully with the Ministry of Health’s requirements and is recognised as one of the top facilities in the country.
“All patients receive equal access to quality dialysis treatment,” he said.
He called on other voluntary organisations and members of the public to continue supporting efforts to improve healthcare services in the region.
“This project represents a community-driven collaboration to strengthen healthcare accessibility and emergency response in Miri.
“We hope this spirit of cooperation continues for the benefit of all,” he said.
