KAPIT: The construction of a new nine-storey hotel here is expected to reshape the landscape and boost the tourism sector in the division.

State Secretary Datuk Amar Mohamad Abu Bakar Marzuki made a working visit to the project site on Tuesday to monitor its implementation.

The visit to the former GiatMARA Kapit Lama site near Lily Pond was organised by Borneo Development Corporation (Sarawak) Sdn Bhd in collaboration with consulting firm Jurubina Unireka.

The new hotel project features a design inspired by local culture and heritage, aiming to harmoniously integrate with the natural surroundings on the southern bank of the Rajang River.

Its design emphasises sustainability and tranquility while enhancing the natural and iconic Lily Pond area.

Cultural elements such as traditional motifs, patterns, and colours will be incorporated into the building’s exterior and interior design.

This includes heritage textile elements like the ‘pua kumbu’ and ‘ngepan’ of the Batang Rajang region, making the hotel not only a modern accommodation but also an authentic cultural experience center.
