SIMANGGANG: A new coastal road linking Kuching to Sri Aman is expected to cut travel time to about an hour once fully completed, significantly improving connectivity and economic access for the division.
Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg said the shorter travel time would not only ease mobility but also enable agricultural produce and local products from Sri Aman to be transported directly to Kuching more efficiently.
He said the improved connectivity would further provide wider access to the proposed Tanjung Embang port and new airport, strengthening export routes to international markets.
“We are creating comfortable and efficient mobility for our people so they can be better connected, and this opens up many opportunities.
“Residents in Sri Aman would be able to explore new economic activities, market their products in Kuching, and access Tanjung Embang as a major logistics hub for integrating port and airport facilities,” he told reporters after officiating the Sarawak Islamic Complex here today.
Abang Johari said the coastal road would be developed as a four-lane highway, beginning from Sejingkat Bridge to Kota Samarahan, before extending to Tanjung Embang, Sebuyau and Lingga, and eventually linking to Gedong via the Pan Borneo Highway.
Earlier, he said the project would also serve as an alternative route to address longstanding issues along the existing village road to Lingga, which had affected nearby residential areas.
“I have personally used the village road to Lingga and found its condition had impacted surrounding settlements. That is why I requested for a new road alignment from the Batang Lupar riverbank to Batang Lupar Bridge II,” he said.
