KUCHING: A new road spanning approximately seven kilometres, intended to connect the access to i-CATS University College new campus in Trombol, is currently at the tender stage.
Deputy Minister for Infrastructure and Port Development (Infrastructure Development), Datuk Ir Aidel Lariwoo, said the road alignment will begin from the end of the Pehin Sri Haji Adenan bin Haji Satem Highway (FAC Highway).
“The project has entered the tender stage under the Public Works Department (PWD) and will be implemented in the first phase of the 13th Malaysia Plan (13MP).
“The road leading to the new university college will involve the construction of a two-lane carriageway,” he said during a press conference after attending a meeting and conducting a site visit to the Batang Rambungan Bridge here today.
He emphasised that the Batang Rambungan Bridge plays a crucial role as part of the coastal route to support future connectivity.
“Our coastal road from Sampadi Junction to Lundu will serve as a key link, connecting residents to another new road that leads directly to the university in Trombol.
“This is what we aim to implement under the RMK-13 phase,” he said.
He added that eight small bridges along the Sampadi-Lundu coastal route have already been completed.
“This means only one bridge remains – the Batang Rambungan Bridge which is scheduled for completion this year,” he said.
Meanwhile, the Batang Rambungan Bridge project, managed by Titanium Project Management Sdn Bhd with a total cost of RM82 million, covers a length of 560 metres, and is expected to be completed before December 2026.
