KUCHING: Premier Datuk Patinggi Tan Sri Abang Johari Tun Openg received a courtesy call from Sarawak Mufti, Datuk Khalidi Ibrahim, at Kompleks Satria Pertiwi here today (May 8).
The visit marked Khalidi’s first courtesy call on the Premier following his appointment as the Sarawak Mufti, succeeding Datuk Kipli Yassin whose term of service ended on February 28.
Khalidi’s appointment took effect on March 1 this year following the retirement of Kipli, who had led the state’s religious institution for more than a decade.
Prior to his appointment, Khalidi served as a consultant at the Sarawak Mufti Department, where he played an important role within the institution.
His appointment is seen as a continuation of leadership efforts to further strengthen the state’s fatwa institution so as to remain credible, relevant and responsive to current developments.
Also present during the courtesy call was Deputy Director of the Sarawak Mufti Department, Khalipah Juli.
