SERIAN: SK Kujang Mawang here is set to operate fully at its new site in the 2026 school session, scheduled to begin on January 12 next year.
Sarawak Education Director, Omar Mahli, said the full replacement school project is among the government’s key initiatives under the RM1 billion ‘Sekolah Daif’ development allocation, aimed at upgrading severely dilapidated schools and strengthening rural education infrastructure.
“SK Kujang Mawang was selected as one of the strategic projects under this allocation due to its location, which serves as a focal point for students from rural areas, as well as its status as a boarding primary school.
“Operations at the new site will commence in the 2026 school session on January 12, 2026,” he said in a Facebook post by the Sarawak State Education Department (JPNS) on Wednesday.
He added that the school’s reconstruction also supports the implementation of restructuring and consolidation of several under-enrolled schools (SKM) in the surrounding area, thereby providing a safer, more conducive, and centralized learning environment.
“The new facilities are also expected to increase the school’s capacity to accommodate students and support the delivery of higher-quality teaching and learning (PdP),” he reiterated.
Omar stressed that the redevelopment of SK Kujang Mawang demonstrates the commitment of the government and JPN Sarawak to ensure equal access to education for all students, regardless of location.
He also expressed his appreciation to the Parent-Teacher Association (PIBG), the local community, and all parties involved in realising the construction of the new school.
