MIRI: Another 46 traders at Medan Saberkas Miri will be able to take advantage of the piped gas supply once its subsequent phase is completed.

According to Miri mayor Adam Yii Siew Sang, the first phase of this project has benefited 67 traders at the same location.

Speaking at the launching of the pilot project, which is a smart partnership between Miri City Council (MCC) and Petroleum Sarawak Berhad (PETROS) today, Yii thanked PETROS for covering the cost of installing the piped gas supply at Medan Saberkas Miri.

“This is a considerable sum, and we are delighted for their willingness and, in fact, their initiative in implementing this programme,” he said.

Medan Saberkas Miri has gone through years of evolution from a simple open-air tamu in the 1990s to the current trading centre with proper roofing and a variety of facilities and utilities.

It has now not only served and catered to the needs of the surrounding residents, but has also become one of the places of interest in the district.

Yii also thanked all the traders at Medan Saberkas Miri for their patience and cooperation throughout the installation period.

Additionally, he expressed his genuine hope that the traders would properly maintain the new facilities, keep the area clean and tidy, and work together to present the finest possible goods and services to the public.

In the meantime, the mayor hoped that PETROS could continue to give financial assistance through the Bantuan Khas Sarawakku Sayang (BKSS) programme, which is being initiated by the state government through Post COVID-19 Development Strategy 2030 for economic recovery.
