KUCHING: Hope Place Kuching has been contacted by Sentosa Hospital to provide support for a disabled man, who is now cared for by his elderly uncle and aunt following the loss of both his parents.
The 38-year-old, Pang Kai Lun, was diagnosed with an intellectual disability at birth and had been cared for by his late mother until her health deteriorated last year.
Following her passing earlier this year, his uncle Chai, 64, and aunt became his primary caregivers at their home on Landeh Road.
Pang faces multiple challenges. He is unable to speak or communicate like most people and his mobility is limited due to weak legs.
His uncle Chai said Pang can be calm and well-behaved at times but may also have destructive episodes, screaming or throwing furniture.
Chai’s daughter occasionally helps Pang with simple communication skills, but caring for him remains a daily challenge.
In addition, Pang was diagnosed with anaemia earlier this year, further complicating his health needs.
Chai supports the family through minor house repair, earning about RM60 to RM70 per day, and has applied for social welfare assistance on Pang’s behalf.
Hope Place is providing basic food aid to help support the family.
Hope Place, also known as Persatuan Kebajikan Harapan Kuching (PKHK), is appealing to the public for support.
Those wishing to donate can reach the NGO at 082-505987 or 013-5672775.
Contributions can be made directly to its Maybank account (MBB: 511289001160) or via the Sarawak Pay/S PAY Global QR code available on its Facebook page.
