KUCHING: The Election Commission (EC) has yet to receive any formal objection or representation against the proposed 17 new State Legislative Assembly (DUN) seats in Sarawak.
Sarawak EC director Abang Noraffian Abang Ibrahim said that, as of yesterday (Sept 8), the commission had not received any completed formal objection or representation.
“However, on our MyST portal, we have received one draft, but the objection is still not complete.
“So we are waiting for that to be completed so that we can sort this matter accordingly,” he said when met by the press after a briefing session on the Sarawak re-delineation review with the EC at a hotel here last night.
The briefing was organised by the NGO Rise of Social Efforts (ROSE), providing Sarawakians with an opportunity to receive a first-hand briefing directly from the EC on the constituency re-delineation exercise.
During the briefing, EC member Dr Mohd Faisal Syam Abdul Hazis explained that a representation is a form of feedback for the commission to re-evaluate its study on the delineation of constituency boundaries.
“All residents of Sarawak can make a representation, regardless of whether it is in support of or opposition to the proposal.
“If there is a suggestion that the EC has put forward that you think is good, it is important to say that it is a form of support so that the suggestion becomes stronger,” he said.
He explained that a local survey would be conducted based on the feedback received.
