MIRI: The public have been advised not to do open burning during the current hot and dry weather.
Miri Fire and Rescue Department (Bomba) Zone 6 chief Supt Law Poh Kiong said this was to prevent air pollution.
“So far, we have yet to detect any hotspots in Miri, but our men, together with other agencies such as Department of Environment, Natural Resources and Environment Board Sarawak, and Malaysian Meteorological Department, are doing patrols from time to time, including using drones to monitor the situation,” Law said today.
He added that as of Monday, monitoring patrols had indicated that the sky is very much clear.
“We are on the alert for any possibility,” he said.
The public can report any open burning activities via the 999 hotline.
