KUCHING: Sarawak recorded its highest number of narcotics-related arrests in the past decade this year following integrated enforcement operations under the state’s One Stop Committee (OSC) on Drugs and Substance Abuse (MIDS).

Women, Childhood and Community Wellbeing Development Minister, Datuk Seri Fatimah Abdullah, said the year-long operations led to the arrest of 632 drug traffickers, 2,317 individuals for drug possession, and 9,703 drug users as of December 14, 2025.

She said the operations were carried out jointly by the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM) and relevant agencies to curb drug trafficking and abuse across the state.

“Through these drug and pill seizures, we managed to prevent an estimated 763,861 instances of drug use and helped save 47,574 individuals from addiction.

“Although the figures show an increase, they also allow intervention measures to be carried out within affected communities, including rehabilitation processes,” she said.

Fatimah was speaking to reporters after the OSC MIDS Sarawak monthly meeting at Wisma Bapa here today.

Sarawak Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department (NCID) Chief, ACP Mustafa Kamal Gani Abdullah, said the total value of drug seizures this year amounted to RM32.14 million.

He said the largest seizures involved 183 kilogrammes of methamphetamine and 352 kilogrammes of Ecstasy (MDMA).

“This integrated operation demonstrates the effectiveness of our enforcement strategies and the discipline in on-the-ground implementation,” he said.

Meanwhile, Sarawak National Anti-Drugs Agency (AADK) Director, Abdul Hamediee Ibrahim, said several treatment and rehabilitation programmes would be rolled out in 2026.

He said these included a collaboration with Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) to develop a rehabilitation monitoring system to track client attendance in treatment programmes in line with amendments to the Dangerous Drugs Act 2024, which were expected to increase participation.

“In addition, AADK is developing the E-TEKAD Drug-Free Workplace system in collaboration with the Human Resource Management Unit of the Sarawak Premier’s Department, alongside statewide drug prevention education programmes through the ‘Aspirasi Bebas Dadah’ awareness roadshow from Lawas to Kuching throughout 2026,” he said.

For the record, the OSC MIDS Sarawak comprises several key government and enforcement agencies, including PDRM, NCID, Sarawak AADK, the Royal Malaysian Customs Department, the State Health Department, the Social Welfare Department, the Education Department, the Sarawak Prison Department, the Security and Enforcement Unit, and the Sarawak Social Development Council.
