
KUCHING: Food stall operators have been given a stern warning by the state Islamic Affairs Department (Jais) to obtain their halal certification as soon as possible.
Sarawak Islamic Council (MIS) president Datu Misnu Taha said that such action is important to avoid misleading consumers with their halal status, as stipulated under Section 16 of Domestic Trade Act 2011.
And thus, assuring the hygiene of the products sold to be at its optimal level and free of any chemicals threats.

“We have warned the premises operators to not use unrecognised halal logo (not issued by Jais) and advised them to apply from the Islamic religious department for the said manner,” he told this to reporters during an inter-agencies operation dubbed ‘Ops Halal’ carried out within the city, last Friday.
The operation carried out together with the personnel from the state Domestic Trade and Consumer Affairs have inspected three eatery premises and a slaughterhouse.
However, no compound or seizures were made during the operation.
Misnu revealed that similar operations were carried out in Sibu, Bintulu and Miri.
