While awaiting proper renovation works and installation of equipments into the building, the Old DUN is already buzzing with a lot of cultural activities.
“Since March, the Old DUN has been the venue for many activities including the annual Cultural Dance and Music Training programme.
“520 participants have enrolled for the programme with the participants ranging from seven to 40 year old,”
This was stated by Minister of Tourism, Arts, Culture, Youth and Sports Datuk Abdul Karim Rahman Hamzah in his winding up speech during the DUN sitting, yesterday.
Aside from that he said that the Sarawak Arts Council which came to operation this year will play its main role in preserving, conserving and to also develop and promote any form of Arts and Culture which benefits the society and the state.
“The council will be focusing on organizing programmes and activities that invokes community engagement and participation such as the Cultural Dance and Music Training programme.
“Similar programme has also been done in Sri Aman, Betong, Sarikei, Bintulu, Miri and Limbang.
“Music and songs are powerful tools to send out messages and to promote destination.
“Thus, leveraging on its existing strength through Sarawak Symphony Orchestra (SONS), the ministry will be organising the ‘Sarawak and Beyond’, a musical tour that will have its destination within and outside of Sarawak,” said Karim.
