KUCHING: The Public Works Department (PWD) Sarawak has begun replacing old lifts at Sarawak General Hospital (SGH) as part of efforts to improve safety, efficiency and patient comfort.
The project involves dismantling four existing lifts and installing a new fire-fighting lift and two passenger lifts, along with related works.
Phase 1 of the project is scheduled for completion by Oct 8, 2026, while Phase 2 is expected to finish by Feb 8, 2027.
PWD Sarawak said the upgrade will significantly benefit hospital users by reducing the risk of lift breakdowns, shortening waiting times, and ensuring smoother movement for patients, the elderly, and hospital staff.
“The new lifts are modern and energy-efficient, contributing to more systematic hospital operations and enhancing overall healthcare service delivery to the people of Sarawak,” it said on their Facebook page.
