KUCHING: The Opar state constituency has undergone a remarkable transformation since 2021, with more than 200 development projects worth millions of ringgit implemented under the Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) government.

Opar assemblyman Billy Sujang said the projects, carried out since he was elected as the constituency’s representative, have brought tangible improvements to the lives of residents through better infrastructure, enhanced public amenities and expanded economic opportunities.

The initiatives are funded through several major state development programmes, including Projek Rakyat, the Greater Kuching Coordinated Development Agency (GKCDA) and the Rural Transformation Programme (RTP).

Among the flagship projects is the RM80 million Opar Metropolitan Food Cluster (MFC), a pioneering initiative aimed at modernising the agriculture sector through the adoption of advanced farming technologies.

The project is expected to boost food production, improve productivity and create new income-generating opportunities for local farmers while supporting Sarawak’s food security agenda.

Infrastructure development has also been given significant attention, particularly in addressing the long-standing need for reliable water supply in rural communities.

According to information obtained from GKCDA, Billy has allocated approximately RM14.4 million from his GKCDA development allocation to upgrade existing water infrastructure and connect villages that previously lacked treated water supply through gravity-fed water systems.

The initiative is expected to benefit numerous households by providing cleaner and more reliable water, improving public health and raising the quality of life for residents in remote areas.

Beyond water supply, the implementation of hundreds of other development development projects under GKCDA and RTP initiatives across Opar is expected to strengthen connectivity, improve access to essential services and stimulate local economic growth.

With continuous investments under GPS’ development agenda, Opar is steadily evolving into a more connected, prosperous and resilient constituency.

Billy said the steady flow of development projects demonstrates the GPS government’s long-term commitment to ensuring that no community is left behind as Sarawak continues its development agenda.
