ROBAN: Two local men were arrested after testing positive for drugs during ‘Ops Tapis Khas’ on Tuesday (May 5).
Acting on gathered intelligence, a team from the Narcotics Crime Investigation Division (NCID) conducted inspections on the suspects, believed to be drug users.
Saratok police chief DSP Mathew Manggie said they were later taken to the police station for urine screening tests.
The first suspect, a 33-year-old, tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine. However, he has no prior criminal record.
“Meanwhile, the second suspect, a 28-year-old, also tested positive for amphetamine and methamphetamine.
“Background checks found that he has two prior drug-related records, including one arrest in Sarikei in 2023 and another case in Saratok last year in which he was convicted,” he said.
Mathew said the case is being investigated under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952, which provides for a fine up to RM5,000 or imprisonment of up to two years.
In addition, they can also be placed under police supervision for two years under Section 38B of the same Act.
