SIBU: A routine enforcement sweep under Ops Tiris 4.0 has led to the seizure of nearly 300 litres of diesel and the opening of four cases after authorities uncovered suspected misappropriation activities at a petrol station here.

Ministry of Domestic Trade and Cost of Living (KPDN) Sarawak director Matthew Dominic Barin said the KPDN Sibu enforcement teams detected two separate cases last Friday (Apr 24) involving two local men, in their 30s, using pickup trucks.

“In the first case, a Ford Ranger was stopped during an inspection, where officers found about 200 litres of diesel believed to have been misappropriated, with an estimated value of RM430.

“Later that day, a Toyota Hilux was detained at the same station, with 93 litres of diesel worth RM199.95 suspected to have been misappropriated,” he said.

The seized diesel is estimated to be worth RM629.95, with the total value of confiscated items amounting to RM20,629.95.

Matthew stated that four cases have been recorded under Section 21 of the Control of Supplies Act 1961 for possession of controlled goods under suspicious circumstances.

Two cases were recorded against the petrol station for allowing purchases beyond the permitted limit without valid permits, while two others were opened against the suspects for alleged diesel misappropriation.

He added that ‘Ops Tiris 4.0’ form part of intensified efforts to clamp down on the misuse of controlled goods across the state.
