KUCHING: More than 33,000 property owners qualified for the Padawan Municipal Council’s (MPP) inaugural assessment rate lucky draw after settling their 2026 assessment rates in full before the May 31 deadline.
MPP chairman Councillor Tan Kai described the response as encouraging, saying the campaign had achieved its objective of promoting prompt payment while rewarding responsible ratepayers.
“Most people usually pay only the first half, so we wanted to encourage them to settle the full year’s assessment earlier,” he said during the lucky draw session today (June 30).
The campaign, launched on Feb 26, automatically entered eligible individual property owners who had fully paid both halves of their 2026 assessment rates and had no outstanding arrears as of May 31.
Winners were selected through MPP’s digital lucky draw system, which Tan said ensured a transparent and fair selection process.
The council offered RM20,000 worth of prizes, including Samsung smart televisions, refrigerators, a washing machine and a heat-pump dryer.
Tan said MPP currently has more than 85,000 registered ratepayers, with residential properties making up about 91 per cent of all properties within its jurisdiction.
