KUCHING: The Road Transport Department (RTD) in the state issued over 4,000 non-compliance notices to motorists during its 21-day special Chinese New Year (CNY) operation.
According to the department, a total of 21,856 vehicles were inspected across the state from Jan 20 to Feb 9.
Of the figure, the enforcement teams took action on 2,790 vehicles and issued 4,098 non-compliance notices for various offences.
Meanwhile, a total of 13 vehicles have been confiscated for offences under the Road Transport Act 1987 (Act 333).
The RTD said they will not compromise and will continue to impose stricter enforcement actions on traffic offenders, who fail to comply with the road regulations and laws.
The special CNY operation was aimed at monitoring, detecting and taking action against road users who fail to comply and commit offences under the Road Transport Act 1987; the Commercial Vehicles Licensing Board Act of 1987; and the Land Public Transport Act 2010.
In addition, the operation also sought to reduce the rate of road accidents, especially accidents resulting in death and injuries.
The department reminded all road users to adhere to traffic laws and prioritise road safety.
