‘Overhaul’ operation for Selangor wholesale market fire still underway

KUALA LUMPUR: Firefighting operations involving ‘overhaul’ work are still actively being carried out by the Malaysian Fire and Rescue Department (JBPM) at the fire site that destroyed a shoplot at the PKPS Agro Wholesale Market, Pusat Bandar Putra Permai here this morning.

Selangor JBPM assistant director of operations Ashrul Riezal Asbar said the firefighting operation continued after the fire was brought under control at 1.20 am, and by 4.35 am approximately 70 per cent of the fire had been extinguished.

The fire department received an emergency call yesterday at 11.04 pm, before the first engine from the Seri Kembangan Fire and Rescue Station (BBP) arrived at the scene nine minutes later.

“The fire involving the premises, covering an area of approximately 400 square metres, was destroyed by 90 per cent but no casualties were reported,” he said in a statement today.

He said that 68 JBPM personnel, along with 16 various types of vehicles, were deployed in the operation with the assistance of members from 13 fire stations, including the BBPs from Bukit Jalil, Presint 7, Bandar Tun Hussein Onn, Petaling Jaya, Bangi, KLIA, Keramat, Hang Tuah, Hartamas, Cyberjaya, Bukit Jelutong, Subang Jaya and Damansara.

The operation was also assisted by 67 members from 11 volunteer fire brigade teams, in addition to members of the Royal Malaysia Police (PDRM), Subang Jaya City Council (MBSJ) and the Selangor Wholesale Market security team.
