PADAWAN: A failed overtaking attempt turned fatal when a young motorcyclist lost control of his bike and collided with an oncoming pickup truck near Puncak Borneo Prison yesterday (Jul 28).

The victim, identified as 21-year-old Tomi Richard, was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics following the crash along Jalan Mambong-Sikog-Sariq at around 6.15pm.

Padawan police chief Supt Barry William said preliminary investigations found that the victim was riding a Yamaha 135LC when he attempted to overtake a car while negotiating a bend.

“He lost control of his motorcycle during the overtaking manoeuvre, causing it to veer into the opposite lane and collide head-on with an oncoming Mitsubishi Triton.

“The force of the impact flung the victim onto the roadway, while his motorcycle was thrown onto the roadside,” he said.

The victim’s body was taken to the hospital for further actions. Meanwhile, the 42-year-old Triton driver escaped the crash unharmed.

Barry said the case is being investigated under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987 for causing death by reckless or dangerous driving.
