PADAWAN: Padawan Municipal Council (MPP) is looking to establish a friendship city relationship with Singkawang, Indonesia, as it seeks to strengthen regional ties.

MPP’s Chairman, Tan Kai, said the council may sign a friendship city agreement with Singkawang during the Padawan Discovery Festival from October 2 to 6.

“We also probably will sign another friendship city agreement with Singkawang, Indonesia, during the period,” he said.

He said this at a press conference on Padawan Raft Safari 2026 at Dewan Majlis, MPP here today.

Tan said the festival would also see MPP welcoming friends and international delegations, including representatives from its friendship city of Huangshi in Hubei Province, China.

Visitors and participants from Indonesia, Brunei, Bangladesh, Sri Lanka and other countries are also expected to join various activities throughout the festival.

He said the international participation reflected the council’s aspiration for the area to become increasingly connected to the regional and international tourism landscape.

The five-day Padawan Discovery Festival will bring together trade, sports, adventure, tourism and cultural activities.

Among the events are the Padawan Raft Safari and Sarawak Trade Fair, with the latter organised in collaboration with the Sarawak Manufacturers’ Association.
