KUCHING: The PBB Batu Kawa N14 Bowling Tournament 2026 brought together 23 teams from Parti Pesaka Bumiputera Bersatu (PBB), Gabungan Parti Sarawak (GPS) component parties, youth organisations, non-governmental organisations, and the local community in a show of unity and camaraderie on Sunday (June 21).

The tournament, held at Emart Mega Lanes in Batu Kawa, was officiated by Deputy Premier Datuk Amar Dr Sim Kui Hian, who is also Minister for Public Health, Housing and Local Government and Batu Kawa assemblyman.

PBB Batu Kawa Chairman, Senator Datuk Ahmad Ibrahim, who was unable to attend due to the Pre-Parliament Briefing Session in Putrajaya, expressed appreciation to Dr Sim for attending the event, and for his leadership and commitment towards the development of Batu Kawa and the well-being of its people.

“The close cooperation between PBB and Sarawak United Peoples’ Party (SUPP) under the GPS coalition, particularly in urban and suburban constituencies, had contributed significantly to Sarawak’s political stability, economic progress, and continuous development,” he said in his speech read by PBB Batu Kawa Deputy Chief, Affry Tony.

According to Ahmad, the bowling tournament served not only as a sporting event but also as a platform to strengthen friendship, foster unity, and encourage greater cooperation among party members and the community.

“Programmes such as this have always been part of my efforts to engage with the community, strengthen bonds of friendship, and build stronger relationships among our people.

“I firmly believe that sports and recreational activities provide an effective platform for bringing people together regardless of background, age or status,” he said.

He added that sports are not merely about winning or losing but are also important in promoting teamwork, discipline, healthy lifestyles, and stronger community ties.

Ahmad also highlighted Sarawak’s strength in its ability to bring together people of different races, religions and backgrounds to work collectively towards common goals.

“In a bowling tournament such as this, there are no distinctions of rank, position or status. What matters is friendship, sportsmanship and togetherness,” he said.

He encouraged young people to continue embracing the values of unity, sportsmanship and community spirit as they would be the future leaders responsible for sustaining Sarawak’s development, stability and harmony.

He also said the progress achieved in Batu Kawa today was the result of close cooperation among GPS leaders at all levels, noting that such collaboration ultimately benefits the people through better development, improved public facilities, and greater opportunities for future generations.

Ahmad also recorded his appreciation to the organising committee, sponsors, volunteers and all parties involved in ensuring the success of the tournament, and expressed hope that similar programmes would continue to be organised in the future.
