KUCHING: Volunteers from Petroliam Nasional Berhad (PETRONAS) and its subsidiaries have been actively assisting and offering support to those affected by the recent floods in Bintulu, Miri and Kuching.

Through a collaborative effort, PETRONAS, PETRONAS Carigali Sdn Bhd (Sarawak Asset), Malaysia LNG Group of companies (MLNG), and Asean Bintulu Fertiliser Sdn Bhd (ABF), as well as its social impact arm Yayasan Petronas, have donated rescue boats, outboard engines, fuel, and essential emergency supplies—including food, beverages, and hygiene kits—valued at over RM800,000 to the flood victims.

“Thousands of local emergency services staff and volunteers have been working on search and rescue operations in flood-hit areas in Bintulu, Miri, Sibu, Kuching and some coastal townships such as Sebuyau and Mukah.

“Cleanup efforts are underway, with residents and local authorities also assessing the extent of the damage caused by the flooding.

“Bintulu was the hardest-hit area in Sarawak, with several neighbourhoods submerged and residents stranded on rooftops by the floodwaters,” PETRONAS said in a statement.

More than 9,000 people across Sarawak were forced to evacuate after a continuous heavy downpour which started on Jan 28 triggered floods and landslides.
