MIRI: Police issued 40 traffic summonses during an overnight crackdown on illegally modified motorcycles and suspected street racing activities, highlighting ongoing concerns over road safety and public nuisance caused by reckless riders.

The operation, which ran from late Monday night into the early hours of Tuesday, saw officers inspect 38 motorcycles and 45 individuals at several locations, including the city centre, Jalan Miri Bypass and Jalan Senadin.

Miri district police chief ACP Mohd Farhan Lee Abdullah said the enforcement exercise was aimed at curbing street racing and preventing activities that could endanger road users and disrupt public order.

Among the offences detected were riding without a valid driving licence, illegal motorcycle modifications, excessively noisy exhaust systems, missing side mirrors and non-compliant registration plates.

Mohd Farhan said enforcement against traffic offenders would continue, particularly against riders involved in street racing and unsafe vehicle modifications.

“We will not compromise with any individual whose actions jeopardise public safety,” he said.

Police have urged motorists to ensure their vehicles meet legal requirements and called on members of the public to report information related to illegal racing activities.
