MELAKA: Police are investigating a bullying case where two senior students in a boarding school in Sungai Udang here had imposed punishment on over 20 Form Three students on Saturday.

Melaka Tengah district police chief ACP Christopher Patit said they received a report about the incident and the two students suspected of committing the act are being investigated under Section 323 of the Penal Code.

“We are still waiting for the medical report as the complainant said that their legs hurt due to the punishment inflicted,” he said in a statement here today.

Meanwhile, Melaka Education, Higher Education and Religious Affairs Committee chairman Datuk Rahmad Mariman said the school had taken immediate measures after receiving the report by conducting an internal investigation to get a comprehensive picture of the incident.

Such interactions were unwarranted as students were imposing their own punishment on their peers and they took such matters seriously as it involved the safety, welfare and rights of students to be in a safe, ethical and conducive learning environment.

He also stated that the state education department and district education office would be uncompromising in the issue and urged the school to strengthen controls and intensify measures to prevent misconduct among students.

Media outlets reported that over 20 female students at the school were allegedly subjected to bullying by doing the duck walk for 30 minutes and made to do squats while pulling their own ears for allegedly returning late to the dormitory last week. – BERNAMA
