Police recover stolen iPhone after arrest in Miri handbag theft case

MIRI: Police have arrested a local man believed to be involved in the theft of a sling bag containing personal belongings and important documents from a business premises in Padang Kerbau.

The arrest followed a police report lodged at the Miri Central Police Station by the victim, who claimed the bag had been stolen by an unidentified individual at the office of Son Soon Enterprise.

Acting swiftly on intelligence gathered during investigations, a team from the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) of the Miri district police headquarters tracked down and detained the suspect late on Tuesday (May 19) night.

The operation, led by Insp Mohd Aimi Abd Latiff and CID personnel and officers from the Crime Prevention Patrol Unit, was carried out at about 11.30pm in Kampung Bungai, Bekenu.

Police also recovered an Apple iPhone 15 Pro Max believed to have been stolen during the incident. The device has been seized as part of the investigation.

The suspect is currently being in lock-up to assist investigations under Section 380 of the Penal Code for theft.
