BALINGIAN: The Dalat and Mukah District Council (MDDM) Balingian Branch took the initiative to organise a post-flood community cleanup (gotong royong) to assist in the restoration of the affected areas yesterday.
According to MDDM Balingian Branch chief Adeni Narawi, the programme aimed to clear mud and debris left behind by the floods.
“The affected areas include the vehicle parking lot and seven units of the ‘Jumaat Sabtu Minggu’ (JSM) Balingian kiosks, which were impacted by recent flooding and high tides.
“With the cleanup efforts, we hope to restore cleanliness and beautify the area once again,” he said.
The programme was carried out with the support of the Balingian community, the JSM Balingian Kiosk Committee, the Malaysia Volunteer Department (RELA) Balingian, and the Balingian Volunteer Fire Brigade.
Adeni also highlighted that the collaboration among various parties ensured the smooth execution of the cleanup effort.
“Thanks to this initiative, traders here can resume business operations in a cleaner and comfortable environment.
“Alhamdulillah, everything went smoothly. The traders and residents can now carry on with their daily activities as usual,” he added.
He also expressed gratitude to all those who contributed their efforts to making the community cleanup programme a success.
