WASHINGTON: Alphabet, Google’s parent company, reported higher profit and revenue for the second quarter on Wednesday, reported German Press Agency (dpa).

Revenue increased to US$119.80 billion in the quarter ended June 30, from US$96.43 billion a year earlier.

Net income rose to US$41.39 billion, or US$3.31 per share, compared with US$28.20 billion, or US$2.31 per share, in the prior-year quarter.

Operating income increased to US$40.77 billion from US$31.27 billion a year earlier, while income before taxes income rose to US$46.51 billion from US$33.93 billion.

Chief executive Sundar Pichai said Alphabet’s artificial intelligence (AI) investments were “redefining what’s possible across every part” of the company.

“These outstanding results show that our differentiated, full stack approach to AI is delivering real, measurable value for consumers, customers, and our partners globally.”

Total costs and expenses increased to US$79.03 billion from US$65.16 billion, driven by higher cost of revenues, research and development, sales and marketing, and general and administrative expenses.
