KOTA SAMARAHAN: The Mental Health Association Sarawak (MHAS) will be organising a mini fundraising programme titled “Second Chances, Safe Spaces” at Universiti Malaysia Sarawak (UNIMAS) on Jun 10, aimed at promoting mental health awareness, self-growth and community support among students.
The full-day programme, which runs from 9am to 5pm, is open exclusively to UNIMAS students and is limited to a fixed number of participants.
MHAS said the initiative is designed as a safe and inclusive environment for participants to pause, reflect, connect with others, and learn practical skills related to mental health and emotional support.
“The morning session, from 9am to 12pm, will feature a talk titled “Peer Support 101: Basic Helping Skills”, conducted by trainee counsellor Phoenicia Christ.
“The session will introduce participants to fundamental peer support techniques, including active listening skills and approaches to supporting individuals facing emotional challenges,” it said in a statement.
It added that in the afternoon, from 2pm to 5pm, participants will take part in an “Art Therapy Workshop: Self-Introspection through Art & Creativity”, which focuses on using creative expression as a tool for reflection and emotional wellbeing.
The programme adopts a “pay what you can” participation model, with a suggested contribution of RM15 to RM20. Proceeds will go towards supporting MHAS initiatives and mental health advocacy efforts in the community.
Participants will also receive lunch, a certificate of participation, and a free gift.
Registration is available via an online form https://forms.gle/p8DfabWeyKVnkG7W8 with organisers encouraging early sign-ups due to limited slots available.
